Climate scientists tell us that such extremes of weather as the floods in Chennai or the acute lack of rainfall in large parts of India are due to a phenomenon called El Niño. The name comes from:

A"The boy child" or baby Jesus, because it happens around Christmas time.B"The fiery storm"—for the hurricanes that occur in Central and South America from September through December.C"The bubbling sea"—named by fishermen for the huge waves that accompany dramatically varying temperature patterns.D"The death zone"—named by scientists for the large numbers of marine animals that die on the Pacific coasts of the Americas, because of the seas warming up.
