Optional (Interaction Design) — in the exam: answer ONE of Questions 4–7 A manufacturer of smart phones has decided to develop a portable soil tester for farmers in India. The tester measures water content (very low to very high), pH level (alkaline to acidic) and fertilizer content (very low to very high) of the soil. The tester has three probes which are to be inserted into the soil in order to take the readings. In addition to the three probes the device can use components from smart phones. a. Visualize the 3D form of the device. Present the design in the form of sketches/drawings. b. Detail the graphical interface of the device. Present the interface in the form of sketches/drawings. c. Illustrate in detail three typical scenarios of the use of the device. Each scenario should illustrate a unique set of design features of the device. Present the interface and information flow with neat sketches and brief explanatory notes. You will be evaluated for 1. Originality of ideas. 2. Ability to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the user. 3. Logic and flow in the interface, usability and appropriateness of the information. 4. Ability to articulate design decisions and effectiveness of presentation.
